Records from Broward County, Fla., show former Steelers linebacker Jamir Jones was arrested and booked April 11 on one count of battery, a first-degree misdemeanor, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., which could have led to his release from the Steelers as announced April 12.

According to court records, Jones was released on bond April 13 and subsequently agreed to a no-contact order with the alleged victim, who was in a relationship with Jones for four years. On that same day, Jones entered a plea of not guilty and requested a trial by jury.

The alleged victim was not willing to participate in the prosecution against Jones, and both parties agreed to waive the no-contact condition on April 20, records show.

Jones is subject to a six-game suspension by the NFL as a part of the league's policy for domestic violence. Jones was released by the Steelers fewer than two months after re-signing a one-year contract on Feb. 27. Jones played three games for the Steelers in 2021, was re-claimed off of waivers, and played in all 17 games for them in 2022, mainly on special teams.
