West Virginia's Ford-Wheaton, MAC defensive end among latest visits taken on the South Side (Steelers)

Who could forget the last time Bryce Ford-Wheaton set foot onto the field at Acrisure Stadium?

The West Virginia wide receiver is the one who dropped a J.T. Daniels pass, which led to M.J. Devonshire's 56-yard pick six in the 2022 Backyard Brawl, the moment which helped define the game and lift Pitt to the 38-31 win in the rivalry's long-awaited return.

Ford-Wheaton could be on the radar to make an encore appearance at that same stadium, as he along with Bowling Green defensive end Karl Brooks each visited the Steelers Thursday at the UMPC Rooney Sports Complex.

Each of these players profile more as mid-to-late round prospects for development than anything, with Ford-Wheaton earning what is essentially the DK Metcalf-lite comparison and a Day 2 grade. Brooks is more of an upside pick on Day 3 of the draft.

The 6-foot-3, 224-pound Ford-Wheaton led West Virginia in receptions (62) and touchdowns (7) while finishing second in yards (675) in being named the the All-Big 12 second team by the coaches.

Brooks stood out in the Mid-American Conference as a defensive end, earning first-team All-American honors from Pro Football Focus and a first-team All-MAC nod while earning an invite to the Senior Bowl. He compiled 18 tackles for loss and 10 sacks last season.

He played his stock up at the Senior Bowl, where he measured at 303 pounds.
