John Hugley IV.

ATLANTA -- Pitt forward John Hugley IV will miss the rest of the season and will seek a redshirt year as he continues to work through mental health issues and rehab with his preseason knee injury, he and the program announced jointly on Saturday before the Panthers' game at Georgia Tech.

โ€œWe are here to support John as he continues to learn to manage challenges in his personal life,โ€ coach Jeff Capel said in a statement. โ€œJohn has worked hard to get to this point and should be applauded for seeking out the help to continue to grow as a young man. This next step will allow him the time and space to focus on his personal growth. We are here to provide love and support for him on this journey that will undoubtedly help him throughout his life.โ€

Hugley has played in just eight of Pitt's 17 games this season, averaging 8.0 points and 3.6 rebounds. He has not played since Dec. 10 against Sacred Heart.

He was Pitt's leading scorer and rebounder last season at 14.8 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, earning an honorable mention All-ACC nod. Hugley is a junior with two seasons of eligibility remaining, but could push it to three if a redshirt is granted.
