The Steelers don’t plan on firing Mike Tomlin. He'll remain head coach of the Steelers, per team sources.
This isn’t Earth-shattering news. We knew the Steelers wouldn’t move on from him, even after losing a sixth consecutive playoff game. It's just not the way they operate.
Tomlin, who just received a new contract last summer and is under contract through 2027, will most likely hold his postseason press conference this week at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex. During that, Tomlin will receive plenty of questions about what potential change this team will undergo to try and snap the longest drought of seasons without a playoff win.
In addition, you can bet there’ll be questions for Art Rooney II when he holds court with reporters later this month. It's something Rooney does after the conclusion of each season. In last year's session with reporters, Rooney not only said it was time to get some wins, but also was quoted saying: "I still feel good about Mike. Obviously, if I didn't, we’d make a change. If we didn't think Mike was able to lead us to a championship, he wouldn't be here. That's why he's here."
We'll have to see what he says this year after another season of more of the same.
