WILLIAMS IS ON THE 'MOVING TRAIN,' JUST NEEDS TO FIND HIS SEAT

Mike Williams looks out over the field as the Steelers take on the Browns at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland.
In Mike Williams' first game as a Steeler, Russell Wilson found him for the game-winning touchdown down the left sideline against the Commanders. It was something of pure beauty. Let's just watch it again for a second:
There was trust, faith and maybe even a little bit of desperation as the game was on the line in a third-and-9 situation. So, maybe, just maybe, Wilson wasn't thinking as much and just let it go. I say this now because ever since that play, Wilson hasn't found Williams, or even targeted him for that matter.
In the past two games, Williams has played 44 snaps and has not been targeted once, by Wilson, or by Justin Fields.
I went back through and looked at his 19 snaps during the Steelers' loss to the Browns. Of the plays that Williams was on the field for, nine of them were running plays and five -- which were all passing plays -- took place on the Steelers' final drive of the game. So let's look at a few of the passing plays because Williams is there, the ball just hasn't found him yet.
Williams plays this first play like a wide receiver screen but Pat Freiermuth is Wilson's first read:
Williams has a little bit of space at the beginning as Freiermuth clears out, but by the time Wilson realizes his tight end isn't open, Martin Emerson Jr. closes the gap on Williams and Wilson is forced to scramble. Williams tries to clear out space for his quarterback but he gets forced out of bounds.
Then, check out this next play where Williams runs a deep out route on the right sideline:
Denzel Ward is a few yards off of Williams as he comes out of his break. Wilson is looking his way but decides to move back through his reads to the opposite side before getting off a last second pass to Jaylen Warren. Also, go back and watch Calvin Austin come open over the middle.
I'll give you one more from the Steelers' final drive with Williams at the top of the screen:
Williams breaks past the corner down the right sideline and looks like he found a soft spot between the corner and the safety. But if you go back and watch the end zone angle, as Wilson looks to Williams' side Myles Garrett comes barreling up the middle of the line and Wilson takes his eyes off his receivers and scrambles.
There were several plays where, if Wilson throws with a little bit of anticipation, there was a chance for a big gain. So, despite his lack of targets and receptions over his first three weeks as a Steeler, Williams is on the proverbial "moving train," he just hasn't found his seat yet.
