Site Stuff: Know an emergency worker? Or a teacher?
Our company goal's to add 3,000new/returning subscriptionsin 2025 and, within that, to do it in a way that strengthens us for years to come. Meaning, of course, via recurring revenue.
To give that a proper push, we're discounting annual subscriptions to $19.99 -- just one-third of the full price -- for all police, firefighters, EMS, nurses, teachers and volunteers with the dual hope of giving back to those who give so much of themselves to our communities.
That's where they can access the much lower price and, on top of that, ensure that they keep that same price permanently.
Now, to help us withstand the long-term cost of this, we asked readers last week to contribute to a fund that'd cover $20 for each of these new subscribers, and I couldn't be more proud to share that, in these first seven days alone, we've got 206 covered already!
• We began a new feature this past week called Subscriber Snaps, one that encourages readers to send us a pic of them using any of our various products in a defined location. If you haven't seen these, I can't recommend it strongly enough. We've already had submissions from Paris, Bangkok, Ecuador and ... well, you'll see.
• Our tag-team baseball beat passed the figurative baton yesterday from Greg Macafee, who just made one hell of a debut down there, to José Negron for the next couple weeks. Greg returns after that, and Anthony Murphy will be down there soon to check out the prospects, and then I'll get there and ... lots of us will be involved.
• Our all-new college/team feeds -- Duquesne, Robert Morris, Penn State, West Virginia, Riverhounds SC, Riveters SC, Nailers and Wild Things -- are all up and running, and they've now been added as buttons atop the desktop platform, as well as inside our main menu. Soon, they'll be button options on the app, too. (Though you can only choose one.)
• I'll be flying up to St. Paul, Minn., to cover the Penguins next weekend. I'll also make a second trip to Bradenton later this month and, while in Florida, I'll cover two Penguins games in Sunrise and Tampa, then stick around for the Pirates' season opener in Miami.
• Not getting our app alerts? Happened to us, too, with the recent 2.0 update. But there's a way to get them back: Go to your Profile (top left corner), thumb down to Devices, tap Manage, thumb down to Having Issues With Notifications, then tap Request Permissions. It's not as complicated as it sounds, and that should get them going again.
• Not getting the red-bell notifications when someone's responded to your comment? Email us about it with details, please: Help@DKPittsburghSports.com
• Everyone loving being ad-free? If you're not there yet, it's only for paying subscribers. If you aren't subscribed yet or if your subscription's expired: This is our subscribe page. From there, make sure you're logged in, tap on the link, and thumb down to the bottom for the SUBSCRIBE button to buy/renew at the monthly or annual level. We also offer mega-discounts, as ever, for student subscriptions and senior subscriptions.
• Grateful that so many are leaving us good reviews on other platforms. Feel free to add your own on our Google business listing, our Appleand Spotify podcast channels and, arguably most important, our own app, whether it's the Apple or Android version.
