The Riverhounds today announced that defender Max Broughton has been signed to a one-year deal, with the usual club option for 2026.
Broughton, originally from Rawtenstall in England, comes to the team from West Virginia University where he was named a Second Team All-American by United Soccer Coaches and First Team All-Sun Belt. Before joining the Mountaineers he played for Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, where he was a Second Team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection in 2021 and before crossing the pond came through the academies of Bolton Wanderers and Salford City, even making appearances for the England U17 side along the way.
A central defender who can also push forward into defensive midfield, he'll be hoping to break into a back line that has always been the strength of the team under Bob Lilley.
