• That's the final, Penguins lose 4-2. Win streak snapped at four.
• GOAL: Islanders hit the empty net with 1:32 left. Islanders 4, Penguins 2
• Penguins going for the extra attacker with 2:20 left.
• 15,372 hot dogs sold tonight. About 200 short of the all-time Dollar Dog Night record. Tough scenes all around.
• Penguins to the power play with 5:17 left.
• GOAL: Pierre Engvall wins a footrace with Ryan Graves and takes the shot off the rush. Islanders 3, Penguins 2
• Up to 32 saves for Tristan Jarry. Seven minutes to go.
• GOAL: It's tied. Noah Dobson backhands in a rebound as he's falling. Conor Timmins had slid just before to block an anticipated shot and took himself out of the play. Penguins 2, Islanders 2
• GOAL: Islanders score with their first shot of the third. Not much Tristan Jarry could do there. Kris Letang fumbles the puck, Kyle Palmieri gets a breakaway. The shot hits the crossbar, bounces off Jarry's back and in. Penguins 2, Islanders 1
• Third period is underway.
• Sidney Crosby is 11-2 in faceoffs. Evgeni Malkin is 7-3.
• Heated discussion between Sidney Crosby and Jean-Gabriel Pageau at the end of the period as they're skating to the rooms.
• End of the second, still 2-0. Shots are 25-19 Islanders.
• A lot of pressure from the Islanders late in this period. Big block from Danton Heinen just now to break it up.
• Chaos ensues in the Penguins' crease after a puck bounces off of Kyle Palmieri but Tristan Jarry keeps it out. He's up to 19 saves now.
• Penguins kill the penalty.
• Joona Koppanen and Noel Acciari are the forwards staring this penalty-kill.
• Penguins to the PK with 7:58 left in the second. Matt Grzelcyk sits for two for tripping.
• Nothing on that power play, either. Penguins are 0-for-2 on the man advantage tonight.
• Penguins get another power play. Bo Horvat sits for two for tripping.
• Nothing on the remainder of that power play.
• Second period is underway
• End of the first. Joona Koppanen and Sidney Crosby have the Penguins up 2-0. Shots are 12-9 Islanders. Penguins will open the second with 1:46 of power-play time.
• No goaltender interference. Penguins lead 2-0, Islanders go on the PK with 14.4 seconds left in the first for wasting everyone's time.
• If this holds, Ryan Graves gets the secondary assist. Penguins are undefeated (2-0) when he gets a point this season. He joked to me after the first assist that "maybe the floodgates will open" but then he gets the goal not long after, and now potentially this assist.
• Hold up. Islanders are challenging for goaltender interference.
• GOAL: Sidney Crosby. That was a weird one. Conor Timmins tries to shoot it, it hits an Islander and bounces over to Crosby, and he pops it in. Penguins 2, Islanders 0
• Boko Imama with a great chance of his own, slamming on the brakes to break free from Noah Dobson and create space for himself.
• There was a little boy here last game, maybe five years old? And he was on the videoboard dancing, and the crowd would go crazy whenever they showed him. They'd cut away -- even to other kids -- and the crowd would boo, then go wild whenever the boy got back up there. He's here again, they just showed him dancing during the TV timeout and the place went crazy again.
• I've seen enough, we have a jersey of the night in the crowd: Marcel Goc.
• Islanders are still making it hard for the Penguins to get any shots off at all here. Going to take some deflections and dirty goals, for sure.
• A guy just proposed to his girlfriend in the front row behind Mike Rupp. She said yes.
• One of the referees in this game is also named Mike Sullivan. Not sure if he's ever done a Penguins game before but he does a lot of Wilkes-Barre games.
• GOAL: Joona Koppanen gets his first as a Penguin and first in the NHL on the Penguins' first shot of the game. Redirects a Vladislav Kolyachonok shot. Penguins 1, Islanders0
• Tristan Jarry stops the fist shot of the game ... and the second.. and third, and fourth, and fifth. All Islanders so far.
• This one is underway.
• Islanders' lines and pairings:
Simon Holmtrom - Bo Horvat - Kyle Palmieri Anders Lee - Jean-Gabriel Pageau - Anthony Duclair Pierre Engvall - Casey Cizikas - Hudson Fasching Maxim Tsyplakov - Kyle MacLean - Marc Gatcomb
Adam Pelech - Tony DeAngelo Noah Dobson - Ryan Pulock Mike Reilly - Scott Mayfield
• That's a huge fourth line -- 6 foot 5, 6 foot 5, 6 foot 1. Boko Imama is the little guy, relatively speaking.
Vladislav Kolyachonok - Kris Letang Matt Grzelcyk - Erik Karlsson Ryan Graves - Conor Timmins
• Weird. All forwards are out there, including Joona Koppanen. Not sure who is sitting. Might be that someone is just fighting through something. Emil Bemstrom did stay out late this morning like he wasn't playing, it might be him.
• Hi from PPG Paints Arena. Penguins look to make it five straight tonight. Joona Koppanen makes his season debut. Big things happening.
