• Ballgame. 3-2 final.
• Bunting's in some pain. Looked to me like Laughton did something in that pileup around the net. Don't know yet.
• One minute.
• Timeout Sullivan. 1:34 left.
• Karlsson pounds the puck at Ersson. Nope. He's been good. I've seen this guy be bad, and this isn't one of those days.
• Blomqvist off.
• Two minutes. Not much happening.
• Three minutes. Blomqvist will come off soon.
• Ersson stops Beauvillier. Power play's up. 4:10 left.
• Good pressure, again coming from the points, on this power play. Five minutes left.
• There's 5:44 left. The Penguins' power play will last 1:27.
• Heinen gets a breakaway, can't convert, and Drysdale has no stick and grabs him and takes him down ... with NO PENALTY SHOT! Just a holding minor! Same ref! Wow! This MacPhee dude's out of his level. ... At any rate, that'll get the Penguins a power play in 33 seconds.
• The Penguins have a short-handed three-on-one, and Acciari really can't make anything happen.
• Lizotte's off for a high stick. Terrible timing for him. 7:41 left.
• Halfway through third.
• WHOA ... GOAL: Overturned remotely! I mean, it's the correct call, but I can totally see why everyone here's upset about the reversal. No one's yet said what the grounds were. Time: 5:42, third period. Flyers, 3-2

• If Sullivan loses this challenge, remember, it's a Philadelphia power play.
• Morgan MacPhee, the rookie ref, says no goal. He totally blew it. He was out of position -- needed to be behind the net a lot sooner -- then actually blew the call. Sullivan's challenging.
• It's in the net. Ersson was down on his stomach. The puck crossed the goal line, and it absolutely was loose between Ersson's pads.
• Did Hayes just score?
• GOAL. Konecny. My goodness. Shot from the right point changes direction off Acciari's stick. And this after Acciari had been called on the delayed penalty. Assists: York, Sanheim. Time: 4:27, third period. Flyers, 3-1
• Heinen has a wide open net off a rebound and somehow misses entirely. Astonishing. Really. Had to be seen to be believed. He was at the beach and missed the ocean.
• Acciari backhands a rebound that grazes the left pipe behind Ersson.
• Third period underway.
• Teams back on the ice.
• End period. And this ridiculous game's now through 40 minutes. Shots are 21-9 for the Penguins, and shot attempts are 58-25. Someone (else) needs to score.
• Shot attempts are 53-15 for the Penguins, and they're losing.
• GOAL: Hathaway. Two big mistakes. Joseph had no business making a back pass while sliding down the boards, and Blomqvist -- yet again looking nervous around the puck -- took forever to decide he wanted to come out and try to beat Hathaway to at 50/50, then whacked it right off Hathaway and back into the net. Time: 12:21, second period. Flyers, 2-1
• Heinen zips one into Ersson's shoulder. Sure feels like he's been due from the day he arrived. His shots have been good. Just hasn't gotten one to go.
• Halfway through this second period, shots are 16-3. Relentless.
• More cherrypicking for the Flyers gets Michkov a 100-foot breakaway, but Blomqvist's more than equal to his move to the backhand.
• GOAL. Karlsson. Crushes his spot over Ersson's right shoulder. Very similar to his goal the other night. Can't remember against whom. Days are kinda running together. Assists: Graves, Rakell. Time: 4:19, second period. Tie, 1-1
— Hockey Daily 365 l NHL Highlights & News (@HockeyDaily365) February 9, 2025
• Out of nowhere, a three-on-one for the Flyers, then a clean break for Gaucher, who's stopped low by Blomqvist, who's somehow still alert.
• Domination. Absolute domination by the Penguins for two minutes straight to open this up. By the time the Flyers cleared, the noble citizens here let out a sarcastic cheer.
• Second period underway.
• Get this: Shot attempts were 34-4 in the Penguins' favor ... and they're down a goal.
• End period. A bunch of action from Karlsson and Letang in the Philadelphia zone, but most shots didn't make it through. Shots are 10-2 for the Penguins, and I swear I don't know where the Flyers' second shot was. I sure never saw it.
• Lots of cheating by the Philadelphia forwards. Bolting up ice even when there isn't a clear opportunity.
• Power play's up. Flurry around Ersson at the very end, but that was about it. Good to see Tomasino getting his nose dirty in there.
• That's twice now Blomqvist's looked uncomfortable handling the puck behind the Pittsburgh net.
• Hayes, Rakell, Bunting, Karlsson, Letang are PP1.
• Couturier trips Acciari. Power play.
• Six minutes left. It's like the Flyers haven't even touched the puck since their goal. A couple early defensive lapses, and now this.
• Glove by Ersson stops Hayes. Still just one shot for Philadelphia.
• Halfway through the first period, and the Flyers still have just that one shot. The Penguins have four. But hey ...
• Hm. Can't call what you don't see. So they aren't. Very fortunate for the visitors.
• Michkov's got blood on his face. Appears to have been Lizotte's stick. We'll see if they call it. So far they haven't.
• Bemstrom's reputation as an effective forechecker is merited. Really gets on the puck.
• Two-on-one now for the Flyers, and that's a third odd-man break. What's Graves doing pinching there? So far, this game doesn't look like the one in New York at all.
• GOAL: Laughton somewhat slow-ish-developing breakaway, but it's the first goal on the first shot. Desharnais semi-pinched, and nobody had his back. Simple backhand tuck beats Blomqvist. Assists: Konecny, Kuzmenko. Time: 1:44. Flyers, 1-0
Philadelphia goal!
Scored by Scott Laughton with 18:16 remaining in the 1st period.
• Faceoff: Penguins vs. Flyers, Hayes vs. Cates, 7:08 p.m., Wells Fargo Center
• Interesting to see Blomqvist stay on the rink way longer for warmups than the norm. Kid hasn't played since Jan 25 in Seattle. Understandable.
• Teams take to the ice for warmups, and Mike Sullivan's lineup goes up almost as quickly:
Anthony Beauvillier-Kevin Hayes-Rickard Rakell Michael Bunting-Cody Glass-Danton Heinen Emil Bemstrom-Vasily Ponomarev-Phil Tomasino Matt Nieto-Blake Lizotte-Noel Acciari
P.O Joseph-Kris Letang Matt Grzelcyk-Erik Karlsson Ryan Graves-Vincent Desharnais
And for John Tortorella's bad guys:
Tyson Foerster-Noah Cates-Bobby Brink Andrei Kuzmenko-Scott Laughton-Travis Konecny Rodrigo Abols-Sean Couturier-Matvei Michkov Nic Deslauriers-Jacob Gauchier-Garnet Hathaway
Travis Sanheim-Cam York Jamie Drysdale-Nick Seeler Erik Johnson-Emil Andrae
