• Get home safely, everybody.
• GOAL. Duhaime. Capitals, 8-3
• GOAL: Heinen's first since the trade. Capitals, 7-3
• GOAL: Strome on the power play. Capitals, 7-2
• Sid starts the period. Oh, well.
• Blomqvist leads the team out.
• I wouldn't play Sid in the third. I'm serious.
• End period.
• GOAL. Now Wilson, as if this wasn't lousy enough. Redirect right in front. No chance for Blomqvist, but that's now six goals on 15 shots by Washington. Capitals, 6-2
• GOAL. OK, so he'll change now. Protas. The puck had no sooner beaten Ned than Sullivan gestured over to Joel Blomqvist. Awful. Five goals on 13 shots. Assists: Sandin, Carlson. Time: 14:25, second period. Capitals, 5-2
• GOAL. Chychrun again. Long range through a Wilson screen. That's four goals on 12 shots and, no, Sullivan's not making a change. Assists: Dubois, van Riemskyk. Time: 14:17, second period. Capitals, 4-2
• GOAL. Wow, tremendous goal by Chychrun, dancing inside around Desharnais, then firing past Ned. But I'll say it again: He's got to make saves. That's three goals on 10 shots, and that's not nearly good enough. Assists: Dubois, McMichael. Time: 10:38, second period. Capitals, 3-2
• Hayes couldn't be more due if he were 10 months pregnant. Partial break just now, can't squeeze it through Thompson's five-hole.
• GOAL. Sid's backhand seems fine. Exceptional rink-length breakout started by Ned. Sid erupted through the Washington zone. Couldn't be caught. Assists: Rakell, Karlsson. Time: 6:36, second period. Tie, 2-2
• GOAL. Fehervary finishes something of a three-on-one after Letang's trapped. Clean shot. Could've used a big save there. That was this dude's second goal all year. Assists: Duhaime, Raddysh. Time: 1:10, second period. Capitals, 2-1
The Caps take the lead less than two minutes into the 2nd period ⏱️
• At intermission's end, Sullivan was engaged in a VERY animated conversation with two officials by the home bench. Can't imagine what that'd be about. Good for him. Horrific call.
• End period. Shots were 9-5 for Mr. Lange's team.
• GOAL. Letang with an absolute cannon. Even used his stick to score the goal. Assists: Geno, Tomasino. Time: 18:21, first period. Tie, 1-1
• Dubois goes off for taking down Geno. More pressure from that line.
• Sid's doing all the shooting on this very effective power play.
• Hayes again. Yikes. What a period he's had.
• Hayes can't close out on another Grade-A, stoned by Thompson in front.
• Eller's off for hauling down Glass in the slot. Great shift for the Geno line. Did everything but get it behind Thompson.
• Quick, what do the Steelers and Capitals have in common? Answer: A kicker does all their scoring.
• Desharnais and Wilson tangle. This draws boos from the crowd, merely because Wilson still exists.
• Oh, my, Hayes can't get his blade on a beauty of a cross-crease feed from Desharnais. He'll be kicking himself the rest of the period over that. He really will.
• Like, I'd want to hear the counter. I'd want to hear how that's not a kick.
• It's upheld. That's terrible. He moves his skate into the puck. That's a kick. By every definition since humans begin kicking things, that's a kick.
• GOAL. Washington. Frank kicks it into a vacated net. For some insane reason, these get allowed, but we'll see. This ain't soccer. Stop this already. Assists: Mangiapane, Sandin. Time: 5:13, first period. Capitals, 1-0
Washington goal!
Scored by Ethen Frank with 14:47 remaining in the 1st period.
• McMichael registers the first shot of the game almost four minutes in, though the visitors are generally commanding play.
• Faceoff: Sid vs. Dubois, 3:22 p.m.
• The actual ceremony for Mr. Lange begins at 3:12 p.m., so, if you're in here, still time to be in the seats by the time it starts.
• And lines and pairings for the Penguins:
Anthony Beauvillier - Sidney Crosby - Rickard Rakell Michael Bunting - Evgeni Malkin - Cody Glass Danton Heinen - Kevin Hayes - Philip Tomasino Matt Nieto - Blake Lizotte - Noel Acciari
