Forward Zach Gallant, recently signed by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to a two-year AHL contract, scored his first goal as a Nailer and had the primary assist on two more in Wheeling's 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones at WesBanco Arena today. The Nailers' other goals were Kyle Jackson's 27th and Isaac Belliveau's second. Taylor Gauthier stopped 25 of 26 shots.
Gallant, 26, was originally a 2017 third-round pick of the Red Wings out of the OHL, and played his first pro games in the 2018-19 season with the Red Wings' ECHL affiliate, the Toledo Walleye. He never earned an NHL contract with Detroit, and signed an entry-level deal with the Sharks instead. He played for the Sharks' AHL affiliate from 2020-22, recording a total of four goals and 14 assists in 78 games. He went unsigned upon the end of his contract and opted to go to Canadian university hockey, playing two seasons with McGill University. He had seven goals and 18 assists in 24 games at McGill this season, and earned his AHL deal once McGill's season ended.
