The Penguins are one of six teams who will participate in the annual Prospects Challenge in Buffalo, N.Y. in September, set to be held Sept. 13-16 at LECOM Harborcenter, the Sabres' practice facility. The Penguins' slate of games is as follows:
Friday, Sept. 13, 12 p.m vs Bruins
Saturday, Sept. 14, 12 p.m. vs. Senators
Monday, Sept. 16, 5 p.m. vs. Sabres
The Devils and Blue Jackets are also participating in the tournament but don't have any games against the Penguins.
The Penguins will be bringing a roster of 14 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders, a mix of their own prospects, players on AHL contracts, and free agent invites:
Forwards: Jack Beck, Tristan Boz, Atley Calvert, Justin Cloutier, Matheiu De St. Phalle, Cooper Foster, Avery Hayes, Tanner Howe, Beau Jelsma, Gabe Klassen, Ville Koivunen, Logan Pietila, Vasily Ponomarev, Brayden Yager
Defensemen: Isaac Belliveau, Scooter Brickey, Harrison Brunicke, Caeden Carlisle, Finn Harding, Donovan McCoy, Owen Pickering, Emil Pieniniemi
Goaltenders: Taylor Gauthier, Sergei Murashov, Charlie Schenkel
Unofficially, the Penguins "won" last year's tournament. No team went undefeated last year, and the Penguins were one of a few teams to finish 2-1, but they finished with the best goal differential of the teams that finished 2-1.
