RICHMOND, Va. -- After being swept by the Murderer's Row Yankees in the 1927 World Series, the Pirates suffered a drought of 33 seasons without a playoff appearance. Most of the teams that took Forbes Field over that span were mediocre at best, but there were a few standouts, such as the 1933 squad, which boasted five future Hall of Famers (Pie Traynor, Arky Vaughan, Lloyd and Paul Waner, and the difficult guess, Freddie Lindstrom) and finished 87-67, just five games behind the pennant winning Giants.
