Survey Says: What job would you have if not hockey? taken in Philadelphia (Penguins)

PENGUINS

PHILADELPHIA -- Penguins players of course grew up with aspirations of playing pro hockey, perhaps reaching the NHL one day.

But what if it didn't work out?

That was the question I asked Penguins players for the latest Survey Says -- if you weren't playing hockey, what job would you want to have? It drew a pretty big variety of answers, and some of them were pretty interesting picks.

Here's what they all said.

P.O Joseph: I'd love to be another professional athlete, maybe like golf or tennis. Or a vet or a psychologist.

Drew O'Connor: Hopefully I'd have any job. (Me: You went to an Ivy League school.) Yeah, maybe something in business.

Radim Zohorna: Ooh ... It's tough, probably something in business.

Matt Nieto: Probably something in real estate or finance.

Alex Nedeljkovic: I'd try to be a cook or a chef.

Sidney Crosby: Firefighter.

John Ludvig: I would say I'd like to be in a band. I play guitar quite a bit, so being in a band would be cool. I like the blues and a little bit of rock and roll.

Ryan Shea: I would love to be a professional golfer if I wasn't playing hockey, that would be the ultimate goal.

Rickard Rakell: I would be a professional tennis player.

Magnus Hellberg: Either a professional golf player or a carpenter. That's what my dad does, and I worked with him before I realized I was good at hockey. I liked building stuff, it's a lot of fun.

Marcus Pettersson: I'd be a carpenter, maybe.

Valtteri Puustinen: Good question. I was saying all the time whenever I was in school, I want to play hockey. I think I'd do something in sports, but I don't know what. When I was small I played football (soccer) and floorball. I'd do something in sports.

Jonathan Gruden: I want to say a pro golfer. Maybe that or a coach. I would like to think I'd be on the Tour.

Alex Nylander: I'd love to play professional golf or tennis.

Dmitri Samorukov: Probably soccer, I grew up in a soccer family.

Kris Letang: If I stayed in the sport field, I would love to be a Formula 1 driver. If not sports, an architect probably.

Lars Eller: I would be in sports, I love sports. I would be a soccer player, maybe a golf player. But if I wasn't in sports, probably an entrepreneur.

Joona Koppanen: I could see myself as a teacher, maybe for sports classes.

Jake Guentzel: Probably something like a real estate agent.

Chad Ruhwedel: It's tough to say. I've been playing hockey for a long time, so I haven't had to think about that for awhile, luckily.

Bryan Rust: Fictionally? I'd like to be a golfer. Realistically? Probably something with real estate or finance.

Ryan Graves: I wanted to do physio before I thought hockey would work out, so probably that.

Erik Karlsson: I don't know, that's a good question. I don't know what I want to do, I'm trying to figure that out myself for when I end this sport, what I'm going to do. I haven't gotten there yet.

Noel Acciari: I've never really thought about it, maybe coaching.

Reilly Smith: Something in business, somewhere along those lines. Nothing specific, I haven't though about it too much.

Tristan Jarry: I'd probably work for our family business, grocery stores.

Vinnie Hinostroza: When I was younger I always wanted to be a zookeeper or something where I didn't have to sit in an office all day, something more hands-on.

Jansen Harkins: A dog walker. Dog walkers seem to have it going on, that seems like a fun job to have.
