RICHMOND, Va. -- The 1971 World Series championship was the fourth for the Pittsburgh Baseball Club, and it was no easy feat against a heavily-favored Orioles team, seeking to repeat. The home team was victorious in each game until the seventh, where Steve Blass broke the streak with a four-hit, 2-1 complete game win.
The series was a career highlight for Blass, who just a year later would develop a case of the yips so severe that it would force his retirement from baseball in 1975.
