RICHMOND, Va. -- I've had the 1970s Pirates on the brain this week, in no small part thanks to the concert I attended by music supergroup The Baseball Project last Wednesday night here in Richmond. Comprised of members of the Young Fresh Fellows, the Dream Syndicate, and R.E.M., they write and sings songs about all aspects of the game we love, from the phenomenon of Shohei Ohtani, to the absurdity of Comiskey Park's Disco Demolition fiasco, to the rotten luck of Harvey Haddix that night in Milwaukee in 1959. The songs are nostalgic yet timely, always catchy and often hilarious, and the band are absolute pros... and the best news is, their tour is coming to Pittsburgh this Wednesday night!

The Bucs host St. Louis that afternoon at PNC... maybe you'll go home happy because they beat the Cards, maybe you'll go home miserable because they got drubbed by 10 runs. But if you want to guarantee that you'll have a great feeling about the national pastime when your head hits the pillow, go and spend a few hours listening to The Baseball Project that night! If nothing else, give them a listen on your favorite streaming service. ... I promise you won't regret it!
