RICHMOND, Va. -- When I was growing up in the late 70s, Chuck Tanner was the manager of the Pirates, sure as Chuck Noll was coach of the Steelers.... and it seemed like it would always be thus! I remember the dawn of the 1986 season, and the unthinkable reality of a new manager replacing the only one I'd ever known, some guy named Jim Leyland.
Sure, it turned out OK ... but man, what a shock it was at the time!
