How DKPS staff voted for Penguins' Masterton nominee taken at PPG Paints Arena (Penguins)

PENGUINS

Kris Letang

In a surprise to absolutely no one, Kris Letang is the Penguins' nominee for the Masterton Trophy, awarded annually to the player who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.

The award is voted on by the members of the Professional Hockey Writers Association. The members of each city's chapter of the PHWA votes for the nominee for the team they cover, then members vote for the winner of the award among the 32 nominees.

Obviously, with everything Letang has gone through this year, he was the clear No. 1 favorite to be the Penguins' nominee. Regardless, our ballot for the Penguins' nominee has to have three players on it. It's a weighted system, with players getting more points depending on how high a ballot has them ranked.

Danny Shirey, Dejan Kovacevic and I are all in the PHWA, and so we all had ballots for the nominee. Here's how we voted:

TAYLOR HAASE

1. Kris Letang
2. Sidney Crosby
3. Jason Zucker

DANNY SHIREY

1. Kris Letang
2. Jason Zucker
3. P.O Joseph

DEJAN KOVACEVIC

1. Kris Letang
2. Sidney Crosby
3. Evgeni Malkin
