Survey Says: Which teammate's the best cook? taken in Cranberry, Pa. (Penguins)

PARKHURST DINING

Penguins executive chef Geoff Straub and Brian Dumoulin

CRANBERRY Pa. -- It's been awhile since we've had one of these Survey Says features run.

I've had this one sitting in the drafts for awhile, waiting for a time when the Penguins are in a bit of a good stretch, to try to avoid the inevitable, "They're on a five-game losing streak and you're writing about food?!" comments. I also wanted to wait for the trade deadline chaos to die down ... and so as a result there are a couple of answers in here from those who have since found new homes.

This one was a two-parter. First, I asked which teammate was the best cook, and should've seen the No. 1 answer coming. My second question was what they themselves think that they cook the best. If this team ever has a potluck dinner, it turns out that there's going to be a lot of steak.

Here's how the Penguins players answered both questions.

WHICH TEAMMATE'S THE BEST COOK?

Jason Zucker: Dumo that I know of. But Sid's banana bread, that's a little bit of a different type of cooking. His banana bread is pretty dynamite. He takes a lot of pride in that.

P.O Joseph: I cook every night. I think Casey is pretty good, Casey and Teddy. I hear them all the time talking about food and what they're making tonight. I'd love to see them in a cooking skills competition.

Kasperi Kapanen: Tanger would probably be the best. I've been at his house a bunch and especially last year, my first year, I've seen what he can do and I think he's a pretty good cook.

Bryan Rust: Dumo, I don't even think it's close. I think he's got a really big passion for it.

Marcus Pettersson: Dumo. He loves cooking, he's the best off the top of my head. But Rakell came to live with us after the trade deadline, he loves cooking. So I would have to say him. He just had a baby, so I don't know how much he gets to cook the way he wants right now. But when he lived with us he was a great cook.

Casey DeSmith: Dumo, for sure. He does it a lot and he puts a lot of effort into researching stuff. So I think the more effort you put in and the more you do it, the better you're going to be. I'm sure that he cooks probably the most out of anyone.

Teddy Blueger: Dumo would be good. He knows his wines, he knows his cheese pairings, all that. He's like, really interested in that stuff.

Sidney Crosby:  Tanger's pretty good, Dumo's up there. I'd say Dumo. Dumo's got a lot more range. He's really good at a bunch of different stuff, I'll go with Dumo.

Jake Guentzel: Desserts for Sid, Dumo for food. Sid made banana bread, it was unbelievable. It was gone pretty fast.

Danton Heinen: Either Ricky Rakell or Dumo.

Brian Dumoulin: Other than myself? Not Guentzy, that's for sure. I don't have an answer for that.

WHAT DO YOU COOK THE BEST?

Rust: I'd say anything on the grill. I'm usually pretty good with the grill. I've got my grill figured out right, the time right and everything. I'm pretty good.

Dumoulin: I'm pretty good at steak, I've got a good fillet down. I'm making scallops tonight, pretty good at that. I wouldn't say I'm great at one thing but I can do anything.

DeSmith: Steak tacos.

Zucker: Steak on the grill. Maybe like a sweet potato with that, or a little salad. Keep it simple.

Heinen: Steak.

Jarry: Nothing.

Archibald: I love cooking on the grill, anything on the grill. I love being outside and doing that.

Poehling: I honestly don't cook a lot -- I've tried to -- but the one thing that I can cook decently is a steak, like if I go buy a steak and prepare it the right way. I'm pretty good at that. But other than that, I don't have much versatility.

O'Connor: Anything grilled -- steak, chicken, anything on the grill.

Joseph: I'm pretty solid breakfast guy. I feel like I do cook some mean crepes, so I feel like I could definitely make the guys happy by cooking that. Breakfast is usually my big go-to.

Crosby: Breakfast. Big breakfast guy, like brunch. I bake a little bit here and there.

Blueger: I feel like my cooking is pretty generic. This year I've been making stuffed peppers a lot, that's kind of been the go-to the last couple of months

Kapanen: I'd probably be the guy to bring the wine or the drinks and just buy something from the store.

Guentzel: Panko cod. That's my favorite meal, I do that quite a bit. Panko cod with green beans and rice pilaf.

Rakell: Bolognese, that's my thing.

Pettersson: Carbonara. When we have carbonara, it's me that makes it.
