The vast majority of the Steelers' week has been spent addressing several needs in free agency. Now, they've added to their coaching staff.

The Steelers are set to hire Jason Brooks as a defensive quality control coach on Mike Tomlin's staff. The team made the move official Monday morning, along with announcing Denzel Martin has been promoted to outside linebackers coach.

Since 2021, Brooks had been the assistant defensive line coach in his second stint with the Ravens under John Harbaugh. He had just finished the final year of his contract. Brooks is the son of Clarence Brooks, who served as an assistant coach for four different NFL franchises, including the Ravens from 2005-16.

Brooks brings plenty of coaching experience to Pittsburgh, both at the collegiate and professional levels. His coaching career began as a student assistant at Middle Tennessee State in 2006, then became a scouting assistant for the Dolphins the following year.

Brooks' first stint in Baltimore lasted from 2009-13. He served in several different roles during that time, including offensive quality control coach. His first tenure in Baltimore ended with the Ravens winning Super Bowl XLVII. Afterward, he went back to the collegiate ranks, working various jobs at Florida International, Maine’s Colby College and Charleston Southern.

The coaching staff has gone through predictable changes this offseason, and Brooks is one of two intriguing new additions, alongside Aaron Curry replacing Jerry Olsavsky as inside linebackers coach. Other losses include Brian Flores becoming the Vikings' new defensive coordinator and John Mitchell's retirement after 29 seasons with the Steelers.
