Red-hot Dukes take down Hawks for fourth straight win taken in Altoona, Pa. (Duquesne)

Duquesne Athletics

Tre Williams.

Duquesne's rise up the Atlantic 10 standings continued Wednesday night as the Dukes rolled to another easy victory.

Duquesne played a terrific first half to take control of the game and never looked back. The Dukes led by 15 at the break and cruised to a 76-62 win over Saint Joseph's at UPMC Cooper Fieldhouse.

The winning streak has moved Duquesne (18-8, 8-5) up to fifth place in the Atlantic 10, and they're just two games behind first-place VCU. The team is 4-0 in February for the first time since the 1970-71 season.

The Dukes began the streak with a 93-67 win at GW, then got the benefit of a three-game homestand and won all three games -- against George Mason, St. Bonaventure and Saint Joe's. The win over the Bonnies was by only two points, but the other two home wins were by 23 and 14.

So, Duquesne hasn't just been winning games, it's been blowing teams out for a couple of weeks now. Saint Joseph's came in playing very well, going 7-2 over its previous nine games, but got clobbered in the first half.

Tevin Brewer led the Dukes with 16 points, while Tre Williams added 13 and Dae Dae Grant 10.

Duquesne shot 50 percent from the field and played strong defense, holding the Hawks (13-13-, 7-7) to just 40 percent.

The schedule now gets tougher for the Dukes, as they travel to Saint Louis (16-9, 8-4) on Saturday and then visit red-hot La Salle (13-13, 7-6), which has a five-game winning streak for the longest in the A10.
