The Steelers have re-signed a player that could help deepen the wide receiver room.
The team announced Tuesday that Anthony Miller will return to Pittsburgh in 2023 on a one-year contract. The Steelers did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.
Miller, 28, spent the entire 2022 season on the Steelers' injured reserve list after suffering a shoulder injury during training camp. Before the injury, Miller was turning a lot of heads with a strong performance and was emerging as a favorite to round out the receiving corps, even more so than Steven Sims, who wound up winning a roster spot and supplanting Gunner Olszewski as the primary kick and punt returner.
The Steelers have a strong duo with Diontae Johnson and George Pickens at the top of the receiver depth chart, but the Steelers could really use a consistent third weapon at receiver if the offense is to improve in 2023. Though receiver is not a top priority, it could still be addressed in free agency and the draft. Bringing Miller back adds a bit more quality to the mix, and it's someone the Steelers really liked last summer.
Plus, Sims is a restricted free agent, so there is no guarantee that he returns.
Miller was drafted by the Bears in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has played in 50 NFL games, starting 18, in his time with the Bears, Texans and Steelers. He has 140 receptions for 1,589 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Miller originally came to Pittsburgh in 2021 when he was signed to the practice squad. He was eventually elevated to the active roster for a game against the Bengals at Cincinnati and caught one pass for two yards.
