A pair of Penguins have hit injured reserve as another is headed back to the AHL.
Tristan Jarry, who was injured in the Winter Classic at Fenway Park in Boston on Jan. 2, has been placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury, retroactive to the day he was injured, it was announced on Wednesday by Ron Hextall.
Jarry skated for the first time since suffering the injury before the Penguins' morning skate on Tuesday. Afterward, Mike Sullivan said that Jarry is day-to-day, but his return is not imminent.
Ryan Poehling, who has been dealing with a nagging upper-body injury, has been placed on injured reserve, retroactive to Dec. 30.
Once placed on injured reserve, players must spend a minimum of seven days there. As so, Jarry and Poehling are eligible to be activated at any time.
It was also announced by Hextall that Mark Friedman has been re-assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the AHL. Friedman has appeared in three games for the Penguins this season, but has been a healthy scratch in recent games in favor of Chad Ruhwedel serving as the Penguins' No. 6 defenseman.
Friedman's re-assignment might signal that Kris Letang isn't that far out from returning to the team after heading home to Montreal to be with his family following the passing of his father, Claude Fouquet.
The Penguins have the day off on Wednesday. They'll be back on the ice for practice on Thursday, 11 a.m., at PPG Paints Arena.
