The Steelers announced Thursday some changes to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception in the wake of Franco Harris' death.
The team will no longer host a series of events originally scheduled for Friday, Dec. 23. Mr. Harris and Art Rooney II were set to speak following a private showing of NFL Film's 'A Football Life' of Mr. Harris. Instead, a replay of the original radio broadcast of the Immaculate Reception will play in the FedEx Great Hall at 3:41 p.m. ET, the exact moment of the play 50 years later.
The FedEx Great Hall will be open from 2-5 p.m. ET, and is free to the public. The event has been moved inside due to the expected inclement weather.
The Steelers also announced the Pro Shop, Hall of Honor Museum (tour reservation required) and FedEx Great Hall will remain open. The team's press release also says food and beverage at Franco's Pizzeria and Pub 33 will be available with parking also available in Stage AE, Gold Lot 1, Gold Lot 1 Garage and Gold Lot 2.
For fans that are unable to attend the celebration in person, the team said in a press release they "will have an opportunity to follow and participate in a recreation of events from Dec. 23, 1972, across all Steelers’ social media channels on Friday afternoon."
Mr. Harris' No. 32 is still scheduled to be retired at halftime during Saturday's matchup with the Raiders.
