Evgeni Malkin said on Sunday that he was a little surprised that his teammates chose to copy his warmup routine in celebration of his 1,000th game in Chicago.
"It's not a big surprise for me because we do the same for Sid when he played his 1,000th game," he told me. "But I was surprised we did it here because I thought it would be better to do it at home, maybe. It's more fun."
Malkin and his teammate will get a chance to celebrate his achievement at home before Wednesday's 7 p.m. game against the Flames at PPG Paints Arena.
Fans attending Wednesday's game are advised to be in their seats prior to 7 p.m. for a pre-game ceremony honoring Malkin.
The ceremony will include a video highlighting moments throughout Malkin's 17 seasons with the Penguins, as well as messages from current and former teammates.
