Kenny Minchey has de-committed from Pitt football.
In a surprising move on Monday, the four-star recruit tweeted his decision to go away from Pitt with the intention to open his recruitment back up:

As Minchey wrote: "I want to thank Coach Narduzzi, Coach Cignetti, Coach (DiBiaso), and the rest of the coaching staff at Pitt for believing in me and providing me with an opportunity to play college football. After prayer and conversations with my family, I have decided to decommit from the University of Pitsburgh. Thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me through this hard decision."
The Hendersonville, Tenn., native was set to be the highest-rated recruit in Pitt's 2023 class as the lone four-star, and he would have been the highest-rated quarterback pulled in by Pat Narduzzi during his tenure as the Panthers' head coach, according to 247Sports.
Minchey is now projected to commit to Notre Dame, per the 247Sports crystal ball predictions.
He has 16 offers, including from Notre Dame, fellow ACC schools Virginia and Virginia Tech, and from Power Five programs Michigan State, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Minchey's de-commitment -- as shocking as it comes, given it had been reported that he was going to enroll early -- now leaves Pitt without a player rated higher than a three-star, and it leaves Pitt without a quarterback in the 2023 class. That class is now ranked 38th overall across Football Bowl Subdivision, per 247Sports.
Looking ahead to Pitt's future at the position beyond this season, Kedon Slovis and Nick Patti each have one season of eligibility remaining, Nate Yarnell will be a redshirt sophomore, and Eli Kosanovich (redshirt senior next season) and Jake Frantl (redshirt sophomore next season) will likely just be scout-team quarterbacks.
