There's no feeling like giving back.

A joint team of our staff and subscribers donated an afternoon of work at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in Duquesne -- the number's limited by the process, and we were happy to have filled out our shift -- and it was rewarding in all ways, from learning about how the facility's run to being able to do our tiny part within that 365-day-a-year process.

A bit of a tour for you via pics/captions:

The delivery area is where forklifts, trucks move product in/out of the facility, never empty in any direction.

A job well done!

Thanks to our staff who participated: Dali, Taylor, Eddie and David Michael. And to subscribers Michael and Tammy Little, Alan and Carol Tiganelli, Mike Guttman and Dan Sunseri. And to those who couldn't make it but sent contributions, anyway: JD Walton, Jeffrey Zink, Janelle Miller, Wayne Pile and Neal Samuels.

Above all, though, thanks to our good friend Brian Gulish and everyone there for everything they do when no one's looking or applauding. It's truly a labor of love.

A MILITARY SURGE!

After a quiet September, our annual Military Drive to offer 2,022 subscriptions to veterans came roaring back this past week with readers buying 229!

Our new total: 579

Our target date: Veterans Day, Nov. 11

Our prognosis: Pretty good.

Thanks, yet again, to everyone! We've got more than a month to make up the rest, and the end always brings the biggest push ... but it does take the occasional push at a phase like this to keep it plausible. That's what just happened.

If you're interested, email me directly with how many you'd like to get -- they're $20 each, a third off our regular price -- at DK@DKPittsburghSports.com
