CRANBERRY, Pa. -- The NHL Department of Player Safety has fined Jeff Petry $5,000 (maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement) for roughing Jonatan Berggren in Tuesday night's 6-2 preseason loss against the Red Wings, it was announced on Wednesday.
Petry was assessed a two-minute minor roughing penalty at 5:46 of the second period for punching Berggren in the back of the head.
The incident likely stemmed from frustration on Petry's end. On his previous shift, Petry got caught puck-watching Berggren in the corner before Berggren slipped a pass right through Petry's skates to a wide-open Elmer Söderblom on the doorstep for a goal.

On the very next shift, Söderblom threw a big hit into Petry while his back was turned in the corner. It was just moments later when Petry punched Berggren near the boards.
The Red Wings scored again on the ensuing power play to put the Red Wings up 4-1.
