As he has done throughout this preseason, Mike Tomlin will play all three of the quarterbacks on his roster in the Steelers' preseason finale against the Lions Sunday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium.
But one player who hasn't seen a snap in the preseason also will join the offense this week -- running back Najee Harris.
"Absolutely," Tomlin said when asked if Harris, who has not played a snap at this point in the preseason, would play against the Lions. "We're going to be inclusive. All healthy guys are scheduled to play."
That would include a healthy dose of the starting offensive line in this game, as well. After a shoddy performance by the line last weekend against the Jaguars, Tomlin said he plans on playing the starting line -- Dan Moore and Chuks Okorafor at tackle, Kevin Dotson and James Daniels at guard and Mason Cole at center -- until he sees results he likes.
Tomlin challenged that group on Monday after the win over the Jaguars.
"I don't care about the work I've seen. I care about the performance on Sunday," Tomlin said. "We can talk ourselves into feeling good about our performance out here this week, or feeling bad. The reality is that we've got to do the job. I judge weeks based on how we perform in stadiums."
That's largely how Tomlin has judged his quarterback competition, as well. Mitch Trubisky will once again start for the third-straight preseason game. Rookie Kenny Pickett will follow, with Mason Rudolph playing third.
Tomlin has been pleased with what he's seen from that group as a whole throughout the course of training camp and the preseason as the Steelers determine who will succeed Ben Roethlisberger and a final pecking order, as well.
"I was optimistic," Tomlin said of his feelings about the quarterback room. "And I think they've met my expectations."
