SHARON, Pa. -- Guillermo Diaz Graham will begin his career with Pitt men's basketball with a piece of hardware on his mantle, after helping his native Spain to a 69-61 victory over Lithuania on Sunday in the FIBA U-20 European Championships in Podgorica, Montenegro.
The 7-foot Diaz Graham contributed just over 7 bench minutes in the title game. He made his only shot attempt from the field and made all four free throws, while adding a steal and a block.
Spain ran the table in the seven games they played in the event. Diaz Graham, an incoming freshman at Pitt, played in all seven games and averaged 6.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks while shooting 59.7% from the field.
Along with twin brother Jorge Diaz Graham, Guillermo signed his national letter of intent with Pitt in May. The pair arrives from IMG Academy after coming to the United States from the Canary Islands. Guillermo averaged 12.5 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 2.1 blocks per game in 36 games last season at IMG Academy.
