It's been a momentous week for Pitt basketball coach, Jeff Capel. On Monday, he secured the commitment of DIor Johnson, a 2022 top 50 point guard, the highest-ranked recruit of his tenure. On Wednesday, 2023 top-100 combo guard Carlton Carrington announced live on CBS Sports HQ that he plans to sign with the Panthers.
The 6-foot-4 Carrington chose PItt over offers from George Mason, Stanford, Loyola Chicago and Iona. He played last season for St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, MD and on the AAU circuit for Team Melo. He's developed a reputation for his high basketball IQ and mid-range shooting. He joins 6'6" forward Marlon Barnes in the 2023 class which now is ranked 10th nationally by 247Sports.

Coming of an 11-21 season and with little momentum on the recruiting trail, Capel has quickly turned the tide with these two latest additions. In his first three seasons, he only recruited one top 100 player, John Hugley. Now, he's added two more in the span of 48 hours.
