Svejkovsky, Thunderbirds advance to WHL Final taken at PPG Paints Arena (Penguins)

Penguins forward prospect Lukas Svejkovsky and the Seattle Thunderbirds are four wins away from a WHL Championship and a shot at the Memorial Cup.

The Thunderbirds eliminated the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL Western Conference Final on Tuesday with a 3-2 win in Game 7, coming back from an earlier 3-2 series deficit.

Svejkovsky recorded assists (two primary, one secondary) on all three Thunderbirds goals. The three-point night gives Svejkovsky 24 points (nine goals, 15 assists) in 18 games these playoffs, ranking No. 3 in postseason scoring in the WHL.

Svejkovsky had two goals in the conference final series against Kamloops. He scored Seattle's second goal in a 4-3 overtime loss in Game 5:

Svejkovsky then scored the game-winner in a 2-1 win in Game 6:

The Thunderbirds will face the Edmonton Oil Kings in the championship round, which opens Friday in Edmonton.

With Svejkovsky turning pro next season, this is his final chance at winning the WHL title and advancing to the Memorial Cup. Svejkovsky previously reached the WHL Final as a member of the Vancouver Giants in 2019, before losing to the Prince Albert Raiders in seven games.
