The Penguins re-signed veteran depth defenseman Taylor Fedun to a two-year contract extension through the 2023-24 season, Ron Hextall announced on Wednesday.
The contract carries an average annual value and cap hit of $762,500. It is a two-way deal, which means that Fedun's salary is different at the AHL level than it is when he is in the NHL.
Fedun, who turns 34 next month, recently completed his first season in the Penguins organization. He played 44 games in the AHL with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and served as the team's captain. A right-handed shot, Fedun primarily played on the right side of Wilkes-Barre's top defense pairing alongside P.O Joseph in the beginning of the year, then the right side of the second pairing with Matt Bartkowski for the second half of the year. He scored five goals and 11 assists for Wilkes-Barre.
Fedun earned one recall to Pittsburgh in November, but didn't appear in any games.
A lower-body injury ended Fedun's season on Feb. 27.
Fedun, who is 6 foot 1 and 200 pounds, has appeared in 127 NHL games over his 10-year professional career with the Oilers, Sharks, Canucks, Sabres and Stars, putting up eight goals and 27 assists.
