Steelers to open 2022 with visit to AFC champion Bengals taken on the South Side (Steelers)

The Steelers will open the 2022 season at Paul Brown Stadium against the defending AFC Champion Bengals the NFL announced today.

The game will be played at 1 p.m. Sept. 11 according to the schedule the league released in advance of revealing its entire slate at 8 p.m. today. Cincinnati swept the Steelers in 2021, the first time the Bengals had done so since the 2009 season.

The Steelers' home opener will be Sept. 18 against the Patriots in a 1 p.m. game at Heinz Field.

The Steelers will follow that up with a Thursday night game at Cleveland, then don't play again until Oct. 2 at home against the Jets.

In Week 5, the Steelers travel to Buffalo for a 1 p.m. game, then host the Buccaneers at 1 p.m. at Heinz Field.

The Steelers then have back-to-back road games at Miami (Oct. 23) in a Sunday night game, then are at Philadelphia Oct. 30 in a 1 p.m. game.

The Steelers follow that up with their bye week Nov. 6, then have back-to-back home games Nov. 13 against the Saints in a 1 p.m. game, then host the Bengals in a Sunday night game Nov. 20.

The Steelers have a second consecutive night game Mon., Nov. 28 at Indianapolis, then travel to Atlanta Nov. 4 for a 1 p.m. game.

They finally play their first game against the Ravens at home Sun., Dec. 11., then travel to Carolina on Dec. 18 for a 1 p.m. game.

The Raiders come to Pittsburgh Sat., Dec. 24 in an 8:15 game on Christmas Eve in what will be the 50th anniversary of the Immaculate Reception.

"Certainly the Christmas Eve game with the anniversary of the Immaculate Reception is a highlight," said team president Art Rooney II.

The Steelers will then finish off their 2022 schedule at Baltimore New Year's Day in a 1 p.m. game before hosting the Browns on either Dec. 7 or 8 at Heinz Field to close out the season.

The Steelers have the added bonus in this year's schedule of traveling the fewest miles with their schedule at 6,442 miles. They also never leave the Eastern Time Zone.

The Seahawks lead the league in travel miles with 29,446 in 2022. AFC North opponents Baltimore (9,500), Cleveland (9,986) and Cincinnati (10,836) also are among the teams with the lightest travel schedules this season.

The preseason schedule also was set, with the Steelers hosting the Seahawks Sat., Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. before traveling to Jacksonville Aug. 20 in a 7 p.m. game. The close out the preseason Aug. 28 with a 4:30 p.m. game against the Lions.
