CINCINNATI -- Henry Davis, the No. 1 overall pick in last year's amateur draft, has been promoted to Class AA Altoona, per source.

Davis, 22, is ranked as the Pirates' No. 2 prospect behind Oneil Cruz and No. 41 overall according to Baseball America.

Davis has been tearing up Class High A Greensboro where he is slashing .350/.448/1.048 with 5 home runs. He's also driven in 22 runs in just 21 games.

The Pirates have yet to make a decision on if Blake Sabol and/or Carter Bins would be promoted to Class AAA Indianapolis. Davis' development has been extremely focused on catcher, indicating those two would get more reps elsewhere should they play alongside Davis.

The organization had indicated Greensboro would be a short stint for Davis, giving him an opportunity to be fast-tracked through the system. Last year, Davis expressed desire to play with the players now in Altoona, who many experts believe to be the next core group of players for the Major-League team.
