The Penguins are headed back outdoors.

They will meet the Bruins in the 2023 Winter Classic Jan. 2 at Fenway Park in Boston.

The NHL confirmed the matchup Wednesday evening, but did not announce a starting time.

The game will be televised on TNT in the United States and Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada.

It was not immediately clear whether it is coincidental that the Penguins are scheduled to play in that game just months after Boston-based Fenway Sports Group, which owns Fenway Park and the Boston Red Sox, became the franchise's majority owner.

The Penguins played in the initial Winter Classic, at Ralph Wilson Stadium in Buffalo, in 2008, and faced the Capitals in the 2011 Winter Classic at Heinz Field.

Sidney Crosby figured prominently in both of those; he score the shootout game-winner against the Sabres and was severely concussed by a hit from Washington's David Steckel three years later.

The Penguins also have appeared in three Stadium Series outdoors games. They lost to the Blackhawks At Solider Field in 2014 and split a home-and-home set with the Flyers in 2017 and 2019.
