Penguins goaltending prospect Calle Clang has had a couple of real highlight-reel saves this season.
The one that stands out the most was this glove save last month, an effort that earned him SHL Save of the Week honors at the time:
The Penguins' 2020 third-round pick had a series of highlight-reel saves in the first period of his start this week against Lulea:
Clang made a pad stop on a bomb of a shot from a Lulea defenseman, then dove across the crease when a Lulea forward was quickly able to fire off a shot from the other side of the net:
Clang's Rogle club won the game, with Clang stopping 20 of 22 shots faced.
It was the first game in two weeks for Clang, who serves as Rogle's backup goaltender. He's won his last three games dating back to Jan. 13, posting a combined .938 save percentage in those games. He's recorded a .905 save percentage and a 2.42 goals-against average in his 11 games this season.
Clang was expected to compete for Sweden's starting job in the World Junior Championship this winter before the tournament was postponed. With the IIHF announcing this week that the tournament will now be held in August in Alberta, Clang will once again have the opportunity to fight for the No. 1 spot on Sweden's roster.
