The Steelers are adding Buccaneers vice president of player personnel John Spytek to their GM search.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Spytek, who has been with Tampa Bay the past six seasons, will be the team's next interview to potentially replace GM Kevin Colbert.
Colbert, 65, plans to retire when his contract runs out after this year's draft in April, though he would like to remain with the Steelers in an advisory role.
Spytek, a native of Pewaukee, Wisconsin -- the same city that produced T.J. Watt -- was a linebacker in college at Michigan. He began his career in the NFL as an intern for the Lions in 2004, moving on to the Eagles' scouting department from 2005 through 2009. In 2010, he was hired as the Browns' director of college scouting, serving in that position until 2012. From 2013 through 2015, he worked in the scouting department of the Broncos before being hired by the Bucs in 2016.
Spytek is the ninth known candidate for the position. The Steelers have already spoken to internal candidates Omar Khan and Brandon Hunt, ESPN analyst Louis Riddick, Morocco Brown and Ed Dodds of the Colts, John Wojciechowski of the Packers, JoJo Wooden of the Chargers Ryan Cowden of the Titans.
Colbert has been with the Steelers since 2000.
