Jason Zucker underwent surgery to repair a core muscle injury on Tuesday, the Penguins announced.
The surgery was performed by Dr. William Meyers of the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia.
Zucker is currently sidelined on a week-to-week basis. The team expects to have a better idea of a timetable for Zucker's return in the coming days.
Zucker is on long-term injured reserve.
Zucker missed six practices in the month of December with what were called "maintenance days" at the time, before being declared "week-to-week" with a lower-body injury on Dec. 27. He began skating on his own on Jan. 4, and returned to the Penguins' lineup on Jan. 17 in the team's game in Vegas. He skated on Evgeni Malkin's wing that game and scored two goals, then was added to injured reserve three days later and designated "week-to-week" with what Mike Sullivan said was the same lower-body injury that had been ailing Zucker earlier.
