PHILADELPHIA -- The Penguins will have a coach in the Olympics after all.
USA Hockey on Thursday named its assistant coaches for the Beijing Games, completing head coach David Quinn's staff.
Penguins director of development Scott Young will serve as an assistant coach in the Olympics for the second time in his career, having previously served as assistant coach under Tony Granato in the 2018 Games in Pyeongyang.
Young, 54, is in his fifth season in his role with the Penguins. Before joining the Penguins in 2017, he worked as an assistant coach for Boston College and the head coach of St. Mark's School. He played 1,181 games over 17 years in the NHL as a forward with the Whalers, Penguins, Nordiques, Mighty Ducks, Avalanche, Blues and Stars.
Young previously represented Team USA in the Olympics as a player in 1988, 1992, and 2002, winning a silver medal in 2002. He also played for Team USA in the 1985, 1986, and 1987 World Junior Championships, the 1987, 1989, and 1994 World Championships, and the 1996 World Cup.
Before the NHL withdrew from participating in Beijing, Mike Sullivan was scheduled to serve as the head coach of Team USA, with Todd Reirden as his assistant coach.
