The World Junior Championship opened on Sunday, with three Penguins players representing their countries in the tournament.
Goaltender Joel Blomqvist (second round, 2020) is on Finland's roster for the second consecutive year, and goaltender Calle Clang (third round, 2020) is on Sweden's roster for the second consecutive year. Forward Kirill Tankov (seventh round, 2021) is making his World Junior debut for Russia.
How did they do in the first two days of the tournament?
DAY 1
Blomqvist was a scratch for Finland's 3-1 win over Germany, a surprising development given that he was expected to contend for the starting job.
Sweden and Russia met for their first game of the tournament, with Clang dressing as backup. Clang's mask for the tournament was made in collaboration with the Swedish Childhood Cancer fund. The mask will be auctioned off after the tournament with proceeds benefitting the charity:

Blomqvist dressed as backup for Finland's 7-1 blowout of Austria.
Clang again dressed as backup for Sweden in a 3-0 shutout of Slovakia.
