No wonder Mike Tomlin was so relaxed on Tuesday when going over his team's injury prognosis for Sunday's game at Heinz Field against the Titans.
Outside linebackers T.J. Watt and Alex Highsmith were limited participants Wednesday as the Steelers (6-6-1) began preparations for the game against the Titans (9-4) after both left last week's loss to the Vikings with injuries.
Watt, the NFL's leader in sacks with 16, suffered a groin injury in the first half against the Vikings and did not return, while Highsmith left early in the second half with a quad injury.
Getting both back would be a boost for the defense, which was held without a sack against the Vikings despite entering that game with an NFL-high 37. Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill has been sacked 37 times this season, third-most in the NFL.
Watt has recorded his 16 sacks despite missing two full games and parts of three others because of injuries.
Also back for the Steelers on Wednesday were offensive lineman Joe Haeg (COVID-19), defensive tackles Isaiah Buggs (ankle) and Carlos Davis (knee) and linebacker Robert Spillane (knee/COVID-19). Buggs and Davis were full participants. Spillane was limited.
Nose tackle Montravious Adams, who has started the past two games for the Steelers, did not practice Wednesday due to an illness. He was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 List.
Cornerback Joe Haden, who has missed the past four games with a foot injury did not practice Wednesday, but Tomlin was optimistic Tuesday that Haden will have a chance to play Sunday.
