UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- It sounds as if we'll finally have some answers about James Franklin's future at Penn State in the coming days.

Franklin reportedly told the State College Quarterback Club in off-the-record comments on Wednesday that he's not going anywhere. The coach was asked after Saturday's 28-0 win over Rutgers if he was prepared to publicly make that declaration.

"I'd like to right now talk about Rutgers," Franklin said. "I get it. I'd like to talk about Rutgers.

"I made that statement because I thought something was gonna happen a little bit sooner. Tuesday, we can talk about that as much as you guys want to talk about that. I'd like to talk about Rutgers. I get it, and I understand the question. Like I've tried to tell you guys before, these things are much more complicated than just simple yes and no answers. And with me, I'm just always trying to be as transparent as possible to tell you guys what I know, when I say something, it's gonna happen."

"So, if we could wait til til Tuesday, I'd appreciate it."

OK, so now this is where things get really interesting. You know what else is scheduled for Tuesday? A virtual meeting to be held by the subcommittee on compensation of the school's Board of Trustees. That's listed on the group's website, although no time is listed for the meeting, and no agenda either.

Franklin will address the media Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in his weekly press conference, so there could be a whole lot of juicy information coming out.

At this stage, it's really all about connecting the dots.

Could Franklin be getting a new contract from Penn State? There's a good bit of speculation about that, but nothing concrete has come up from anyone within the university.

If he is getting a new contract, it would have to be approved by the compensation subcommittee, which again, just so happens to be meeting that very same day.

Franklin's name has been linked as a candidate at both USC and LSU this season. He has not made any public comments so far to dismiss such speculation about him leaving.

This past week, news broke that Michigan State coach Mel Tucker is going to receive a 10-year contract worth $95 million. That would make Tucker the second-highest paid coach in college football, behind only Alabama's Nick Saban.

Franklin has discussed in vague terms how he'd like to have Penn State show a commitment to competing at the highest level all year-round, which would indicate his desire that the school get up to speed with other power programs when it comes to spending and resources.

Is Penn State ready to make that kind of commitment?

We could find out Tuesday.

Then again, it should be noted that the Lions have a game next week at Michigan State, and Franklin rarely likes going into too much detail about anything other than the upcoming game. So, it's also possible he may have some information to offer about his future Tuesday but may not want to get into a whole lot of the details.

Franklin's entire postgame press conference can be seen below.
