Mike Sullivan will be named the coach of the U.S. men's hockey team for the 2022 Beijing Olympics, sources confirmed to DKPittsburghSports.com on Monday.
This will be Sullivan's second time behind the bench for Team USA at the Olympics, but the first as head coach. He was an assistant coach for the 2006 Olympics in Torino.
Sullivan was previously head coach for Team USA at the 2007 World Championship. He was an assistant coach in the 2008 World Championship and the 2016 World Cup.
The Beijing Olympics are scheduled to open on Feb. 4 and run through Feb. 20. The NHL's All-Star Game break is set to begin Feb. 4, and there is an extended break that runs through Feb. 22 to accommodate the Olympics.
The NHL has yet to come to an official decision on whether its players will be permitted to participate in the Olympics. The league said in its schedule release that in the event players do not participate in the Olympics, the regular-season schedule will be revised.
