The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and Jordan Nolan have mutually agreed to part ways, head coach J.D. Forrest announced on Friday.
Nolan had taken an indefinite leave from the team on Feb. 13 due to family reasons.
"He needs to be with his family right now," Forrest said on Friday. "And with a shortened season and COVID protocols, it works best with him to remain with his family."
Nolan, 31, was on an AHL contract with Wilkes-Barre this season. He participated in Pittsburgh's training camp on a tryout contract, and played in Wilkes-Barre's first two game of the season, recording one assist.
During training camp, Nolan spoke of the drive to turn his opportunity in Wilkes-Barre into an NHL contract with the Penguins.
"Right now, I'm just focusing on working as hard as I can and getting comfortable and getting a couple of games, showing them what I can do and making a tough decision for them if they want to sign me or not," he said.
