Despite their game this weekend against the Titans being postponed until Week 7 because of a COVID-19 outbreak within that team, the Steelers remain steadfast in their attempts to get state and local officials to allow them to have fans at Heinz Field for upcoming home games.
Because of the scheduling change regarding the game with the Titans, the Steelers will now play four of their first five games at Heinz Field -- including four in a row. They have already played the Broncos and Texans and will return to host the Eagles Oct. 11 and Browns Oct. 18.
That will account for half of their home schedule for the 2020 season. And the team remains hopeful government officials will give them the OK to have at least a small number of fans in the stadium, perhaps as soon as the game against the Eagles, the state's other NFL team.
"As of today, it has not been determined whether we can host fans for our October home games on Sunday, October 11th and Sunday, October 18th, but we want to alert you that we will contact you by email as soon as we know if fans will be permitted," the team said in a message sent out to season-ticket holders. "Once a decision is made on whether fans are permitted, we will provide details of the seat selection process that will be available to you."
The email also said that seating capacity will be severely limited and that fans should be on alert over the coming days, as the tickets might be made available with little to no notice.
There is no word yet on how or which season-ticket holders will be chosen to attend games at Heinz Field, which seats 68,400.
