As if the designated hitter wasn't enough, there may be true American League baseball at PNC Park this year.
On Saturday, the Blue Jays learned they cannot play in Toronto this year due to Canada's restrictions around the pandemic, and their search for a new home could lead them to PNC Park, per Rob Longley of the Toronto Sun.
The Pirates' general manager, Ben Cherington, and his assistant general manager, Steve Sanders, both came from the Blue Jays, so the two front offices are close.
The Pirates would obviously take priority at PNC Park, but there are only seven days where the Pirates and Blue Jays have a home game scheduled this season, so it might not be too difficult to pull off.
Some of the other potential homes for the Blue Jays are Buffalo, New York, home of their Class AAA team, or its spring training facility in Dunedin, Fla.. Per Longley, the Blue Jays' players would prefer to play in a big-league stadium instead, and they are considering an "undisclosed" amount of stadiums to use.
Under Canada's Quarantine Act, any person entering Canada from the United States is subject to a 14-day quarantine. The city of Toronto has also prohibited gatherings of more than 10 people. The Blue Jays were awarded an exemption so they could hold their summer camp in Rogers Centre, but did not have it extended beyond that.
The Major League Baseball season will start July 24. The Blue Jays' first schedule home game is July 29. The Pirates are home against the Brewers that day.
