CRANBERRY, Pa. -- Sidney Crosby left the ice early in the second half of Saturday's training camp scrimmage and did not return for the remainder of the game.
It's not clear why Crosby left, he didn't appear to be injured anytime before leaving.
Mike Sullivan declined to comment on Crosby's absence, referring to the NHL mandate that prohibits teams from commenting on a player missing time due to injury or illness during this phase.
Conor Sheary, when asked about the mood on the bench with Crosby gone, downplayed the issue.
"I don’t even need to touch on that," he said. "I think it’s just a maintenance thing. I don’t think it’s anything.”
Sam Lafferty stepped into the first-line center role between Sheary and Jake Guentzel in Crosby's absence.
