We're still awaiting the results of the NHLPA's and NHL Board of Governors' votes on the extension to the collective bargaining agreement and plan to resume the NHL season.
The agreement would extend the CBA through the 2025-26 season.
TSN's Frank Seravalli on Wednesday reported on some of the details that are in plan on which the players and Board of Governors are voting, which will take effect if both side ratify the agreement:
• The latest the Stanley Cup Final can run for this season is Oct. 2.
• The NHL Draft will be held on Oct. 6
• Free agency will begin either Oct. 9 or seven days after the Stanley Cup is awarded, whichever is later.
• Training camps for the 2020-21 season will open on Nov. 17.
• The 2020-21 season will open on Dec. 1.
• After the CBA is ratified, players will have three days to decide whether to opt out of the remainder of the season. If enough players around the league or on a single team opt out of finishing the season that the integrity of the season is impacted, then the NHL and NHLPA can meet again to determine whether the season should still restart.
• For statistical purposes, the qualifying round games will count toward playoff totals.
• There will be no period before free agency in which unrestricted free agents are allowed to speak with interested teams. Players won't be able to speak to teams until the start of free agency.
• The maximum salary for entry-level contracts will increase from $925,000 to $950,000 for 2022-23 and 2023-24. The maximum salary will be $975,000 for 2024-25 and 2025-26, and $1 million for 2026-27.
• The minimum NHL salary for next season will be $700,000. It will rise to $750,000 in 2021-22, and $775,000 in 2023-24.
