Ben Roethlisberger said earlier this year that he wasn’t going to shave his beard until he was able to throw "a legit NFL pass" to one of his teammates.
So, when he shared a video on Twitter on Monday showing some of his throws to JuJu Smith-Schuster, James Conner and Ryan Switzer, followed by a shot of his beard getting trimmed at a barber shop, Steelers fans had reason to celebrate.
Governor Tom Wolf wasn't as pleased to see Roethlisberger getting his beard trimmed, though.
Roethlisberger was at Norman’s Cut N Edge Barbershop in Sewickley. Allegheny County is in the "yellow phase" of lifting restrictions that were set in place to limit the spread of the coronavirus. Under the yellow phase, retail stores are allowed to reopen, but places like barbershops and salons are not yet permitted to reopen.
In Wolf's press briefing on Tuesday, he was asked if the barbershop would be investigated for reopening for Roethlisberger.
"My concern is just a general concern," Wolf said. "Anybody who puts himself or herself into harm’s way is something that I think we have to try to avoid. When you go to something like a barbershop and you’re not protected, I don’t care who you are, the chances of that virus actually wreaking havoc on your life increases.
"I don’t personally think any Pennsylvanian ought to take that chance. I certainly don’t want to take that chance myself."
Norman’s Cut N Edge Barbershop released a statement on Tuesday evening addressing the issue, and clarified that the beard trim was done as a free favor from the owner, and no money was exchanged.
